Brussels, Belgium

A little note: there were many cities we stopped in or stayed in that although were interesting, they were not exciting enough to have their own page, so I'm going to include them all together in one post at the end of these series of posts.

Jumping from Salzburg to Belgium (and a whole day and a half of traveling in between), we arrive in Brussels.

Our first stop is a tour of the European Parliament for the EU.

Now, let's move onto the good stuff: the food!

Yum! What do you think of, when you think of Belgium? I think of Belgian chocolate, Belgian waffles and beer; so guess what, that's exactly what I enjoyed there. We bounced from decadent chocolate stores to gourmet waffle houses. There really is a difference in European waffles (especially Belgian) from American. In the US, our waffles are usually similar to a pancake and are soft-ish and served with syrup. First, of all, syrup doesn't seem to exist in Europe. And waffles are crispy like a biscuit (not a dinner-roll biscuit, Europeans call cookie-like-things 'biscuits'..for example in Cyprus, at CrepaLand I often get a dessert crape with chocolate and biscuits inside). So, waffles are crispy like a cookie sort of, and you put fruit on them, and sometimes ice cream, jams, or very bitter chocolate.

Those are all waffles!

This is the waffle Joanna and I each got. Chocolate (veryy bitter) with strawberries, powdered sugar, and cream.

Look at all the chocolate in huge pieces! Then below, the pretty chocolate-tiers were everywhere. I shouldn't admit this, but I was broke and may never end up here again, so I took a piece of chocolate and truffle here and there. Hey, they leave them out like that! In the US, they know better. Hungry tourists that don't speak the language don't know any better ;p
