The Troodos Mountains were really amazing. Driving towards them, they appeared as ginormous clusters of mountains popping out from the middle of luscious fields of marigolds and citrus orchards. As the bus got closer, the mts only grew higher and more impressive, truly an amazing contrast to the paddocks of red-toned goats, horses, and agriculture. It is hard to describe how beautiful they were-my camera simply wont caputre the depth nor the way the resemble a pop-up book of mt ranges. As everyone knows, I'm obsessed with nature and plants and was a little crazy about all the different types of plants. Instead of aple orchards at home, they have lemon, orange, and olive tree orchards. Mixed in are palms, cacti (which I enjoy as much as lichen..which I like a lot for some reason), cherry blossom trees, and all sorts of exotic looking flowers. We first went up a mountain and experienced views that took my breath away. Looking down into the valleys of below us..it looked like something you'd expect to find in South America or see in the movies. Unfortunately, it was challening to get a decent pic of the scene because when we finally stopped at the top, the snow was easily 5ft and in some places over our heads (it was plowed though so we could walk around the little village). I am so thankful that I packed some warm stuff because it was chilly-I wore my superwarm turtleneck, gloves, a thick sweater, thick wooly socks, and my north face. The village was quaint and adorable with just a few shops, stores, restaraunts; it was clear that this was the type of place that comes to life in the summer. We walked around checking out cool sites and got some dried fruit, carmelized nuts, and a traditional wine of the mts. After walking around the mountain top, we made the descent in the bus down the winding, narrow roads to the village below. Most of the pictures are from that town. After a lovely lunch, we explored around the ancient city. I wish we had had more time because there was so much more to see! The view and character was just picturesque lovely; I really felt like I was somewhere exotic and magical. I'm only posting a portion of the amount of pictures myself (and everybody else) take everyday. There are simply too many to post, but hope the ones I've been including are capturing the character of the things I'm experiencing!
Love the pictures of the mt's. Sure glad you decided to pack the North Face! I'm so impressed with the vivid descriptions of your journal.
